Feng shui & clutter

An uncluttered environment lends peace to the mind. There is something nice about waking up in an organized, clean room where everything is allocated its particular space, so that you don鈥檛 have to search for your mobile shuffling through your night table or search for an office file ransacking your scattered book shelf.

You save time getting ready to leave for work and return back to an organized environment, which has a calming effect by itself for your tired mind. Our Fengshui expert Dr. Harshit Ravindra Kapadia gives you an insight on how to avoid clutter to maintain a harmonious fengshui vibration in your environment.

Organizing your storage space

Storage space is required in each and every house & office. Care should be taken to arrange your storage space. The storage space can be in the form of a room or just shelves. However it is placed, it should be in proportion. It should be shuffled regularly.

Green bulbs should be fitted in the storage space. The space should be neat and clean. Excess goods should be stored below the bed, which ideally should be only sleeping cushions, covers and blankets.

What does clutter mean?

The word 鈥渃lutter鈥? is a Middle English word, which means junk or to coagulate. Any kind of obstacle in the smooth flow of energy is defined as 鈥淐lutter鈥?. This in turn creates a stagnant vibration and confusion in the lives of the occupant.

As soon as clutter accumulates the energy becomes stagnant. Hence the clutter becomes a symptom of the things happening with you in your life and then becomes a part of the problem itself. Clutter accumulates bit by bit and then it slowly, grows and grows, leading to the accumulation of stagnant energy, which then has a corresponding effect on your life.

What constitutes clutter?

  • Belongings which you do not utilize or love
  • Junk objects
  • Things that are untidy or disorganized
  • Plenty of things in a very small place
  • Incomplete or broken objects

Most of the people are just unaware how much clutter affects them. Clutter will affect you according to the kind of individual you are, how much stuff you have, where you have piled it, how you have organized it at your home or workplace and for how long you have had it, without using it. People keep old clothes, old shoes, old utensils, news papers, magazines, junk audio and video tapes, floppy discs, etc. All these items when kept constantly for long periods of time leads to clutter.

If you have ample of clutter then the clutter just blocks your mind, body and soul. Thus it affects your intellectual power, thinking power, imagination, health, well being, prosperity and many major parts of lives. Here the mind, body and soul are in disharmony.

Having clutter can:

Make you feel exhausted and lethargic

路 Affect your health
路 Obstruct your body
路 Affects your body weight
路 Keeps you confused
路 Affects the way people treat you
路 Creates disharmony
路 Makes you feel ashamed
路 Can depress and discourage you
路 Dull your creativity, sensitivity and enjoyment of life
路 Make you disorganized
路 Cost you financially
路 Keeps you in the past
路 Distracts you from important things

What is the reason behind keeping the clutter?

There are always many reasons why clutter is accumulated, excuses such as 鈥淚 am too busy, lazy, stressed鈥?. If you can make time to acquire clutter (and people easily do that), then you can also make time to clear it. There are many reasons why you may have felt the need to keep the stuff you have.

Some of them are:

鈥淚n case I need it later鈥? is a very common reason that people give for keeping clutter. People cannot throw it away because they feel it can come in handy someday. Keep reasonable amounts of stock, which you will use regularly.

Sometimes you can feel attached to your belongings because you feel that your own identity is tied with them. It is fine to keep some gifts and mementos of happy times, providing they still have current value for you and there are not innumerable. They block your energy and make you dwell too much in the past.

Placement of clutter and its effects

Our plot is divided into nine equal parts. The eight parts represent and correspond to the eight main directions and the ninth part is the center. Each direction has different properties and characteristics.

  • Clutter should not be placed in the center of your premises as it affects health, unity, and prosperity of your life.
  • Clutter should not be placed below your bed or near your sleeping area.

Excess goods, objects and belongings that are not used frequently should be just disposed.

Clutter zones in your home

Where does clutter tend to collect in your home?

Junk rooms, your front entrance, behind doors, passage ways, under beds, on top of cupboard.

Make an effort to clear the clutter from your life and enter into a clutter free zone. This will ensure a triangle of balance where the base of life is neat, clean and clutter free will come into existence. This will directly reflect on your life and create a harmonious mind, body and soul.

I agree that there is something beneficial about Feng Shui, but some people take it really far. A friend of mine will not stay in an apartment if the kitchen sink is opposite the oven. Something to do with fire fighting water !!

I understand and agree with Feng Shui, I think the interior decor of a unit is very important to ones wellbeing. However, I think people take it too far when they consider the Feng Shui of the apartment number.
