The second most developed node in Navi Mumbai, Nerul has a good mix of residential and commercial complexes. With 52 sectors, it is the biggest and the most populated area of Navi Mumbai. The NMMC and CIDCO have supported the development by giving it good infrastructural facilities, railway service on the Harbour Line, market and education facilities.

A major part of the Palm Beach Marg passes through Nerul and is connected to the Rajiv Gandhi Bridge in Nerul which further joins the Mumbai-Pune Highway. The transport is smooth as the township is well organised into sectors and plots. The Nerul railway station is a major stop on the harbour line which connects Panvel to CST. Trains to Thane were also started in 2009. A good network of NMMT, BEST and the ST buses also facilitates transport as these buses start or pass through Nerul and allow passengers a fast and direct passage to destinations across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Furthermore, the newly started AC buses also pass through Nerul providing a refreshing change to the passengers. Good quality of roads is ensured by the NMMC which looks after the maintenance of the same. The Thane-Nerul railway line has proven to be a boon for the residents.

Nerul is fully developed with good roads, proper lighting and drainage systems, hence driving in a lot of residential demand. The Palm Beach road offers good connectivity. Development in Nerul started some 15 years back, with the infrastructure shaping to be fantastic. On the educational front, Nerul has some major educational institutes like Dr. D Y Patil College, Terna Medical and Engineering College, SIES College of Arts, Commerce and Science and schools like St. Xavier’s, Apeejay School, Delhi Public School and St. Augustine’s, among others. “I am glad that I am studying in SIES, which is known to be one of the best colleges in Navi Mumbai. The campus is great and the crowd is good too with excellent faculty members,” says Harjas Kolhi, a resident of Nerul.

Nerul boasts of a good mix of restaurants and entertainment as well. Places like Cafe Coffee Day, Melting Magic Ice cream Parlor, Dominos and the Smokin Joes Pizza outlet are some favourite hang out spots. There is also a pub called Ice and Spice located nearby which has a casino built in. Besides, Nerul is also famous for its sweet shops like Bikaner sweets, Balaji sweets, Jhama and the like. Convenience stores also care of the daily needs of the residents.
“Nerul has often been in demand because of the cleaniness and the beauty it provides. One special feature about Nerul is that it has lots of well designed, picturesque gardens which add to the beauty of this developing node,” says Wahid Kadwaikar, a resident of Nerul. He continues, “The recently started Rock Garden is an avenue to spend quality time in the evening. The garden is loaded with a mini-amphitheater, sculptures made from rocks, playground for children, a botanical garden and so on. The upcoming Children’s Park is also going to be a huge attraction.”

A good place for worshippers, Nerul has many temples and churches spread across its length and breadth. The hillock Bramhagiri houses the Balaji temple, Swaminarayan Temple, Mata Amritanandmayi Math and the Little Flower Church. The Parsik hill nearby (in Belapur) serves as a good place for a pleasant outing. You can view the entire stretch of Belapur, Nerul and Seawoods from the hill. The atmosphere is always pleasant coupled with fresh air and lots of greenery. There is also a Krishna mandir called Bhagvat Dham at the end of Parsik hill, which sees good turnout on a daily basis. The D Y Patil Cricket stadium in Nerul is the silver lining as many IPL matches were held there, including the IPL finals of 2008 and 2010. Also, the Nerul Gymkhana provides lots of facilities for sports. There are plans of a golf course too coming up shortly. “The D. Y. Patil stadium is one of the best in India and has a capacity of 55,000 people. It is the first cricket stadium in the world to have a full-fledged concert level reinforced music system. It attracts many people from Mumbai and Pune alike during IPL. It is a boon for cricket fans in Navi Mumbai as they don’t have to travel all the way to Wankhede to witness a live match” says Mamta Rawool, a student and resident of Nerul.

Offering a holistic ambience and quality of life, Nerul is witnessing a lot of demand, which is only getting stronger.
