Vaastu for your bedroom

Vaastu for your bedroomRest and relaxation are the two words that are foremost in one’s mind when returning home from work. Talking of rest and relaxation, the bedroom comes to our mind quite naturally. According to the ancient science of Vaastu Shashtra the level of peace and tranquility that prevails in the bedroom can be enhanced by observing some simple principles.

First in the list is the location. Ideally, the bedroom should be located in the southern part of the house. The ideal location for the master bedroom is the south west and Vaastu practitioners suggest that all other bedrooms should be located either towards the east or north of the master bedroom.  If your bedroom happens to have an attached bathroom then the best location for it is the south or the west. Another thing to remember is that it should be kept spotlessly clean and odour free.

The North is considered to be a very powerful direction. However, it is ideal only for worship. A bedroom in the north will bring financial losses and unrest. When situated in the northeast can cause emotional imbalance and illness. In the North West there will be disharmony among the occupants. If located in the east children will suffer from ill health and disease. In the south east, there will be confrontation and temper tantrums. According to Mr. Sivaraman who had rented an apartment in a housing complex, “I had to shift house because the master bedroom was not ideally situated and this was causing a lot health problems for me and my family. So much so that I decided to move into another apartment in another block and I can feel the difference.?

The ancients were very holistic and extremely scientific in their approach. They were not content with just finding the perfect location. They even found the impact of the position of ones head when sleeping on his/her life. The position for the head when sleeping is the south.

Coming to the shape, the shapes considered most ideal for the bedroom are square or rectangle.

Since it is the bedroom, the bed should be the centre of focus. Originally, vaastu advocated that the space under the bed should be clean and clutter free. However, in the modern world where we are constantly facing space crunch and living spaces are getting smaller, the box bed is at the height of its fame and prosperity. So, the modern Vaastu practitioner does not say no to it. But, what they stress on is keeping the storage space clean and clutter free. When placing the bed try avoiding placing it at corners. The best position for the bed is a position from where anyone entering or leaving the bedroom is within full view of the occupants on the bed. Care should be taken to place the bed in such a way that the foot of the bed does not face the door. The bed should never touch the walls. It should never be placed under a beam.

When choosing a mattress for the bed one has to choose a mattress that provides complete support to the body when lying down.

Today beds made of many different materials are available. However, any die hard Vaastu believer will tell you that a bed made of wood is the best.

Aesthetics is an important factor. Loud colours are just not in. Soothing pastel colours and objects and pictures associated with pleasant memories should find a place in the bedroom. Mirrors should be avoided. Placing them  directly in front of the bed is strictly prohibited. In case you just have to have a mirror then, care should be taken to place it in such a way that no part of the body is visible in the mirror when the person is lying down. Interestingly, Vaastu practitioners do not advocate placing divine idols or pictures in the bedroom. Some practitioners say that meals should not be eaten in the bedroom. Especially when sitting on the bed. This causes ill health. So, the pooja room has to be kept away from the bedroom.

Your bedroom should be a place where you can totally relax.  So it is a good idea to keep objects that remind you of unfinished tasks out of the room, or at least out of sight.
As the most private, personalized space in a home, the bedroom must necessarily reflect your life style, cater to your practical needs, aesthetic preferences and also create an environment that is conducive to allowing pleasant dreams.

Does the sleeping position change if one lives in the Southern Hemisphere as I live in Australia? The sun moves east to north and not east to south as in the Northern Hemisphere. Would be interested to know if Vastu direction changes as Feng shui is also follows the opposite principle in the Southern Hemisphere…this is what I have read so far, and I am so confused. Please help!

We live on the 12th floor in an appartment, which has 3 bedrooms.

The bedroom near the entrance (South-West) is small and has been converted to a store room. Both other rooms are in the South-East and Notrh-East direction. We are currently living in the SE bedroom (master bedroom), and sleep with our head pointing to the South.

Please confirm if this is the best option or whether we should move to the NE bedroom and sleep with our head in the East.

    A Gupta.

how the rules of vaastu can be applied to smaller flats like 1bhk flats, where the occupier is left with no room for making changes. how do we define areas like southwest, northwest etc, when the whole flat is constructed with just two major directs and the remains directions becoming a part of the common room?

I’m building a house in Australia. The sun trajectory in soutpole is towards north where as in northpole its towrds south. Now my plot is facing north. As per vastu the best location for master bedroom is South West however if I build a master bedroom there, I will not get any sun. I prefer to build master bedroom on North West corner. Kindly advise if its ok? I’m not sure what is the logic for south-west to be perfect location. If its sun (energy) then in southpole it should be different plan.

Best advice is not to think too much on vasthu since most so called vasthu practitiioners are actually neither well read on the original scripture, nor really talk something meaningful and one can notice that most sentences of all the present day vastu writers are based on their flow of ideas and thoughts.
The best remedy if you have any doubts is to hang a picture of Ganesh facing inside your house or in the wall that forms the outer wall of that room but keep the Ganesha facing the room. This will take care of all vastu remedies and God being omnipresent, has no directions.
Original vastu shastra was defined based on the living style of 5000 years ago and most of them dont apply today and please dont waste time and energy and get confused with the so called consultants.

    Hello Sir,
My brothers bedroom is in northeast and he sleeps keeping his head in east direction and legs in west direction.
There are two bathrooms next to his room [ from north east to south east ] can he sleep keeping his head in south direction where bathroom wall is, by changing bed position ?.Is it ok if he keeps head positioned to toilet wall ?

I will appreciate and look forward for your guidance.
